Technical Workshop

Technical Workshop

Rangakarmee, in collaboration with the National School of Drama (NSD), organized an Intensive Technical Theatre Workshop aimed at nurturing the next generation of theatre practitioners with a strong foundation in stagecraft and backstage excellence.

Inspired by the theatre philosophy of the late Smt. Usha Ganguli, the workshop upheld the concept of complete theatre—where artists were trained to understand not just performance, but also the critical technical elements that support a compelling production. This integrated approach reflected Rangakarmee’s long-standing belief in holistic theatre education.

The first edition, directed by Smt. Usha Ganguli herself, set the benchmark for a rigorous and immersive learning environment. The second edition, led by Souti Chakraborty, continued this legacy with the same dedication to technical and artistic refinement.

Facilitated by experienced faculty from NSD along with Rangakarmee’s own skilled technical team, the workshop offered hands-on training in:
• Lighting and sound design
• Set construction and prop management
• Makeup and costume design
• Stage coordination and backstage execution
• Live production management

Participants worked directly with professional equipment and real-time setups, gaining practical experience and industry-relevant skills essential for today’s theatre.

Through such initiatives, Rangakarmee continues to strive for the overall development of theatre practitioners, strengthening the ecosystem of Indian theatre with knowledge, skill, and collaborative learning.
